Credit Usage

8bit-ai uses a credit-based billing system where different platform actions consume credits. Understanding how credits work helps you manage costs and optimize your usage patterns effectively.

What are Credits?

Credits are the unit of measurement for platform usage. Each API call, message processed, or AI inference consumes a certain number of credits based on the operation's complexity and the model used.

How Credits Work

Every action on the 8bit-ai platform consumes credits. Your monthly plan includes a fixed number of credits, and you can purchase additional credits as needed.

Usage Tracking

Monitor your credit consumption in real-time through the dashboard or API. Track usage at the organization, agent, and conversation level.

Dashboard Usage View

The dashboard provides a real-time usage overview with charts showing daily consumption, breakdowns by model and action type, and projected usage for the current billing period.

API — Get Usage

Usage Threshold Alerts

Configure usage alerts to receive notifications when your credit consumption reaches defined thresholds.

Real-time Tracking

The dashboard updates usage statistics in near real-time. There may be a delay of up to 5 minutes for usage data to appear in the API and dashboard.

Credit Rollover

Unused credits from your monthly allocation can roll over to the next billing cycle, subject to your plan's rollover policy.

PlanRollover LimitRollover Duration
StarterNone (use it or lose it)N/A
ProUp to 100% of monthly allocationRolls over to next month, expires after 1 cycle
EnterpriseCustom (negotiable)Custom terms

Rollover Example

On the Pro plan (200,000 credits/month), if you use 150,000 credits in June, you will have 50,000 rollover credits available in July. In July, you get 250,000 total credits (200,000 monthly + 50,000 rollover). Any unused rollover credits expire at the end of July.

Overage Charges

If you exhaust your allocated credits (including rollover), you can continue using the platform with automatic overage billing. Overage credits are charged at a fixed rate.

Overage Rates

PlanOverage RateAuto-top-up
Starter$0.02 / creditOptional, minimum $10 top-up
Pro$0.01 / creditOptional, minimum $25 top-up

Managing Overage

  • Auto top-up — Enable automatic credit purchases when your balance drops below a threshold. Set the top-up amount and threshold in billing settings.
  • Usage caps — Set a hard cap on monthly spending to prevent unexpected overage charges. When the cap is reached, non-critical actions are paused.
  • Manual purchase — Buy credit packs directly from the dashboard at any time.

Overage Billing

Overage charges are billed at the end of each billing cycle. If auto top-up is enabled, top-up amounts are charged immediately. Monitor your usage regularly to avoid surprises.
